Classes for the Whole Family
Sacred Heart Women's Hospital offers a variety of prenatal education classes designed to help parents-to-be prepare for your special day - and for the days that follow back home with your new baby. There are classes to prepare you for childbirth, teach moms and dads the basics of infant care, help prepare your baby's older siblings for the birth of your new addition to the family, assist new nursing moms and more.
Classes
Lamaze Classes/Childbirth Preparation
Call early in your pregnancy to reserve your place in this six-week, comprehensive course that teaches couples how be active participants in the birth of their child. Couples learn breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as comfort measures during the stages of labor. The course includes a tour of the obstetrics area of Sacred Heart Women's Hospital.

Breastfeeding Support Service
Our Breastfeeding Support Service begins with a two-and-a-half-hour class offered twice a month, Saturday mornings and evenings. The class addresses common concerns and teaches techniques to make breastfeeding easier. Lactation consultants are available for inpatients, and offer outpatient consultations by appointment. A "warm line" is available for new moms to speak with a lactation consultant. Call our "warm line" at 416-8088.

Newborn Parenting
This two-part series offered in the evenings describes important aspects of caring for your baby, including bathing, dressing, feeding tips, how to soothe a fussy baby, and natural newborn characteristics. Other topics covered include safety concerns and caring for a sick baby. A Sacred Heart pediatrician will be available during the question-and-answer period.

Mommy & Me
This support group provides mothers with babies with an opportunity to share experiences, provide support, and develop parenting skills. The group is free of charge and meets twice monthly, on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Sibling Class
This class prepares children ages 3 through 10 for a new baby in a family. The class is held monthly on a Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, and includes a tour of the OB area.

OB Tours
Scheduled OB tours are held twice a month, on the first Tuesday and Thursday. OB tours also can be arranged by appointment, if needed.

Grandparents Open House
Held on Sunday afternoons every three months, Grandparents Open House addresses current trends in birth and carseat safety. A tour of Sacred Heart Women's Hospital also is included.

Childbirth Refresher
This class is specially designed as an update and review for the couple who has attended a complete Lamaze series within the last three years. Classes are scheduled on an as-needed basis.

CPR for Family and Friends
This class teaches skills in infant and child CPR and first aid for a child who is choking. The course includes information on safety and a video that addresses prevention of sudden nfant death syndrome and the most common fatal injuries in infants and children. The course is offered through Sacred Heart's Education & Training Department.
